The British Olympic Association has confirmed that 20-year-old Team GB tennis player Heather Watson will compete in the women’s singles competition.
Watson received a place in the singles competition after the withdrawal through injury of Ukrainian player Alona Bondarenko.
Watson will enter the singles event alongside fellow Team GB players Anne Keothavong and Elena Baltacha. She will also partner 18-year-old Laura Robson in the doubles competition.
On discovering the news Watson said: “I got told the news on the court at the end of my training session at Wimbledon today. I’m so pleased, I was jumping up and down with excitement when I found out. I’m really looking forward to competing for Great Britain in the Olympics and I’ll be giving it my best shot in both the singles and the doubles competitions.”

The event begins on Saturday 28th July and runs until Sunday 5th August 2012.
