Luz Esperanza Merry completed a successful tournament by finishing runner-up in the women's singles to add another trophy after her victory in the women's doubles. Having had Christine Schoenn on the opposite side of the net in the women's doubles final, second seed Merry found the more experienced Frenchwoman too strong in the singles final as top seed Schoenn earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory.

Luz Esperanza Merry won her second women’s doubles title of 2014 and reached her first women’s singles final of the year on the second day of play in Brno.

Merry and Poland’s Lucyna Mietrkiewicz justified top seeding in the women’s doubles, beating Christine Schoenn of France and Ladislava Porizkova of the Czech Republic in a deciding championship tie-break in the final for a 6-3, 4-6, (10-7) victory. It was Merry’s third senior doubles title of her career.

Merry will now face top seed Schoenn on Sunday after also beating Porizkova 6-2, 6-3 in her women’s singles semi-final.

Luz Esperanza Merry, the sole Brit contesting the Brno Cup, made the perfect start to her women’s singles and doubles campaigns at the ITF futures Series tournament in the Czech Republic.

Thirteen year-old Merry, the world No. 5 ranked junior player, is the second seed in the field of eight players for the women’s singles and opened her account with victory over the first of two Czech opponents, defeating Marcela Rasola 6-1, 6-0. Merry plays Ladislava Porizkova for a place in Sunday’s final.

Merry and Poland’s Lucyna Mietrkiewicz are top seeds for the women’s doubles and moved into the final after a 6-1, 6-0 win over Rasova and Petra Krizkova. They will play second seeds Christine Schoenn of France and Porizkova for the title.
