Lucy Shuker claimed her first women’s singles title of 2014 at the Birmingham Canadian Wheelchair Tennis Classic as David Phillipson finished runner-up in both the men’s singles and doubles.
World No. 10 Shuker had her toughest challenge of the week in her fourth and final round-robin match, but the British No. 2 dominated the final set to beat American Emmy Kaiser 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 and complete the tournament unbeaten.
Third seed Phillipson put up a fine effort against Japanese top seed Takashi Sanada in the men’s singles final, but world No. 9 Sanada just had the edge to seal the title 7-5, 6-3
Sanada was again on the opposite side of the net in the men’s doubles final, as the Japanese player and Australia’s Adam Kellerman, the top seeds, beat Phillipson and Youann Quilliou of France 6-2, 6-3.

David Phillipson moved into the men’s singles and doubles finals, with Lucy Shuker going into the last day of competition with one round-robin match remaining against American Emmy Kaiser in her quest to win the women’s singles.
Third seed Phillipson upset Australian second seed Adam Kellerman in the last four of themen's singles and will now face Japanese top seed and world No. 9 Takashi Sanada in the final.
Phillipson and Yoann Quilliou of France also beat Canada's Philippe Bedard and Joel Dembe 6-2, 7-5 in the men's doubles semis and progress to meet top seeds Kellerman and Sanada in the final.
Shuker remains unbeaten after her first three round-robin matches, her latest success being a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Japan's Kanako Domori.

David Phillipson progressed to the men’s singles and doubles semi-finals as Lucy Shuker made it two women’s singles wins from two matches.
Phillipson faced a stiff challenge in the men’s singles quarter-finals before eventually defeating Brazilian eighth seed Daniel Rodrigues 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 to set up semi-final against Australian second seed Adam Kellerman.
Phillipson and Yoann Quilliou meet Canadian third seeds Philippe Bedard and Joel Dembe in the semi-finals of the men’s doubles after the second seeds beat Koreans Ho-Won Im and Ji-Hwan Lee 6-3, 6-2 in their opening match.
Shuker will bid to make it three wins from three matches when she plays Japan’s Kanako Domori on Saturday’s third day of competition, having beaten Korea’s Ju-Yeon Park 6-3, 6-2.

David Phillipson and Lucy Shuker contest the first of three back-to-back ITF 2 Series tournaments in North America that have British interest over the next three weeks.
Phillipson is third seed for the men's singles at the Birmingham Classic and began his campaign with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Japan's Yusuke Nishimura.
The British No. 4 plays Brazilian eighth seed Daniel Rodrigues for a place in the semi-finals. If Phillipson can reach the last four he will play Australian second seed Adam Kellerman.
Phillipson and Yoann Quilliou of France are second seeds for the men's doubles and after a first round bye they will take on Korean duo Ho-Won Im and Ji-Hwan Lee in the quarterfinals.
World No. 10 Shuker is the top ranked player in a five-way round-robin competition for the women's singles title. The Brit claimed a 6-2, 6-2 win over the first of two successive Korean opponents in her opening match, beating Myung-Hee Hwang ahead of playing Ju-Yeon Park.
