Andy Murray’s title defence has come to an end on Wednesday as Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov knocked out the 2013 champion in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon.
Murray, who had been bidding to extend his 17-match winning streak at the All England Club fell, 6-1, 7-6 (4), 6-2 in two hours and one minute.
It is the first time since 2008 that Murray has failed to make the last four.
"Right at the beginning of the match I had breakpoints in the first game." Murray commented. "But my start to the match was poor. I started the match badly. And I think that gave him confidence.
You know, I should have done a better job at the beginning of the match of making it tougher for him, and I didn't manage to do that."
Dimitrov, 23, consistently overpowered the British No.1 with his big serve, mixing up play with a variety of shots and defence moves, as Murray looked on the back-foot making 37 unforced errors to the 11th seed’s 18.
