Andy Murray beats Blaz Rola in Wimbledon second round

Defending champion Andy Murray comfortably moved past Slovenian Blaz Rola to reach the third round of Wimbledon on Wednesday.

On The No.1 Court the Briton came through 6-1, 6-1, 6-0 in one hour and 24 minutes.

Murray, 27, has now won nine matches in a row at the All England Club.

He will play Spanish 27th seed Roberto Bautista Agut or Czech Jan Hernych in the last 32 on Friday.

"I played well," said Murray, seeded third. "I just had to concentrate on my side of the court, and I took care of my serve pretty well."

"You try to, you know, finish matches as quickly as you can. If you have the momentum with you and you're playing well, that's what you need to try to do."

Tara Moore edged out by Vera Zvonareva

Tara Moore was edged out by Vera Zvonareva in the opening round of the women’s singles at Wimbledon.

After play was suspended at one set a piece due to fading light on Tuesday evening, the match resumed on Wednesday afternoon, with the Russian sealing the win 6-4, 6-7(3), 9-7.

Speaking after the match, Moore told the BBC: “Obviously I’m disappointed at the moment. I gave all I had out there. I was very nervous but it was very nice to have the crowd behind me out there.”

Naomi Broady misses out to Caroline Wozniacki

British wild card Naomi Broady was beaten by Danish sixteenth seed in the second round of Wimbledon on Wednesday.

World No.163 Broady, who came back from a set down to defeat Hungary’s Timea Babos in round one on Monday, fell to the world No.16, 6-3, 6-2 in just under an hour on the No.1 Court.

Men’s Doubles: Round One

Fourteenth seeds Jamie Murray & John Peers of Australia are through to the second round of the men’s doubles with a 6-2, 6-4, 6-4 win over British duo Dan Evans & James Ward.


Jamie Delgado & Gilles Muller (LUX) were taken the distance in their opening round match against Yen-Hsun Lu (TPE) & Divij Sharan, booking their place in round two with a 2-6, 2-6, 7-6(3), 6-3, 6-2 win.

British brothers Ken & Neal Skupski were also in action, taking on German pair Dustin Brown & Jan-Lennard Struff on Court 4 falling 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in their first team appearance at Wimbledon.

Women’s Doubles: Round One

The British duo of Tara Moore & Johanna Konta began their Wimbledon doubles campaign on Wednesday taking on Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova & Croatian Mirjana Lucic-Baroni falling 6-4, 6-4 in just over an hour on Court 5.

Meanwhile on Court 6 Heather Watson and Canadian partner Eugenie Bouchard fell to Australian sixth seeds Ashleigh Barty & Casey Dellacqua 6-4, 7-6(3).
