It is with much sadness that I have to report that Robin Sharp had died.
Robin was one of the first coaches to be employed by Berkshire LTA and, together with Peter Warren, undertook County coaching in the 1960’s and 70’s. He was the the first professional coach attached to Caversham LTC. Until he turned professional Robin had been a regular member of the Caversham Mens 1st team but in the 1950’s and 60’s, as a professional, he was unable to continue playing for the club . However, when the ban was lifted he returned to match play.
Many of the youngsters he coached went on to play for their County and, in some cases, their Country.
One could argue that he was a coach ahead of his time and continued to be very involved with the sport even though he was unable to continue coaching. He was a PE teacher at Ashmead School in Reading (which has now become the Madejski Academy) and also coached swimming and skiing.
His funeral will take place at the Reading Crematorium, Henley Road, Caversham on Thursday 19th April at 2.30pm.
