Following the Sport England award of £75K last year the clubhouse at Priory Tennis Club, in Stalybridge, was closed from Monday 3rd October – 16th December for the refurbishment of the club house. Everyone agrees that this has been a major step forward for the club in helping secure its future for the next generation. There are new toilets and showers with disabled access, a new kitchen, bar and bar kitchen. There is also a new heating system and a rewire to the building with new internal doors also being added.
Shelagh Walton, the club’s Tennis Development Officer said
“It has been evident from the increased attendances by members at Club Functions and applications for private functions since the completion of this work that everyone is enjoying and very proud of the new facilities”.
On May 17th the club held the official opening of the Club House by Jonathan Reynolds their local MP. Shelagh continued “”This was a really great day with a fantastic turnout by members old and new. The opening was followed by a members tournament attended with members ages ranging from 13-82 yrs old, ladies and men! We're already have an increase in membership from this time last year and have a busy diary of events over the summer”. As with all clubs, Shelagh highlighted the need for more people to help, even a spare hour of your time would be appreciated.
Congratulations to all involved in securing the funds for the refurbishment that has made such a difference.
