Perran Tennis has won an initial grant application from Sport England so for the first time the in its history the club will have power and flood lights.
The flood lights will increase club usage into the winter months, later evening play, encourage growth of visitors and increase the safety of the courts.
Perran Tennis was established 117 years ago in 1896, the original Edwardian club house still stands and remains cherished as part of the club’s future development programme.
During a time when Britain embraces the Olympic and Paralympic legacy the committee continue to develop what is an important piece of Perranporth’s heritage, providing an affordable facility for the whole community to enjoy.
As such, the club’s 4 phase development programme has begun:
Phase one which now has secured funding, will bring power to the clubhouse and floodlights to the hard courts
Phase two to resurface and colour coat the existing three hard courts
Phase three is to build a new and modern clubhouse
Phase four will be a respectful refurbishment of the original pavilion
A club that had a membership of below 50 just a couple of years ago now boasts 158 members and is on target to gain over 200 members by next year, increasing to 500 members in the near future. The continual aim is to provide a true community sporting facility which is non-exclusive, affordable, welcoming and fun.
The club’s coach, Steve Luck, has implemented a club programme for the first time offering sessions from toddlers to seniors. The club now has a youth development program with mini memberships starting at just £10 and also provides the use of its facilities free of charge to local schools.
Group sessions include ladies nights, men's nights, family mornings, junior holiday tournaments and instant pay and play.
With the first phase of the project underway, Perran Tennis is well on its way to fulfilling the inspired facilities legacy.
