The Cornwall u14 Girls County Team travelled to Coombe Dingle last weekend to compete in the Aegon 14U County Cup.
Bethany Cole, Arielle Fitkin, Emmy Lappel, Nadia Rawson and Ellie White represented the County alongside Ryan Fern County Girls Manager.
Our first match was against a very strong Avon team who included 3 players in the top 22 in the country, this proved too much for Cornwall but all gave it their all with Ellie White playing a great game against 22nd ranked lizzie Burton coming off with a 6-4 6-4 loss.
Next up was arch rivals Devon which proved to be a fascinating contest, Ellie and Emmy lost their matches in 2 sets, Cornwall 2 Arielle who played a very smart game and won in 2 sets along with Nadia winning at 1 after dominating her opponent with some fine all court play and levelling up the score. Cornwall 2nd pair in the doubles was Arielle and Beth started slowly but with a few tactical changes pushed the Devon pair all the way and lost a tie-break in the second set, this meaning that Cornwall top pair Nadia and Ellie needed to win the final match to force a shootout and with some fantastic play from both pairs the Cornish pair ended up recoding a 7-5 7-6 win , this meant that the Cornish number one pair would play a tie-break to decide the tie, after some superb play and great support Cornwall served out the Match and take a momentous win over Devon.
Our final match was against South Wales, unfortunately they proved too strong and despite some fine play the Welsh team was too strong and took a 6-0 win.
It was a great experience for all the girls to compete at this level and look forward to next year.
