As a valued entrant in past Powder Byrne Junior and Open Tennis Trophy’s, we wanted to make sure you were among the first to receive details of the improved 2013 tournament.
You will see from the entry form below that the Trophy caters for every age group from the 8&U through to Men’s and Women’s singles plus Family and Mixed Doubles. Once again the event has LTA Grade 3 status.
For 2013, we again have 8 & Under (Red Ball) and 9 & Under (Orange Ball) events to be played initially as 16 one day tournaments between 14th September and 10th November, with the winner of each tournament qualifying for the National Finals.
Alongside the regular 16 regionals, we also introduced for 2013, the two largest ever one day 8&U and 9&U events in British tennis history, using up to 25 orange courts and 50 red courts, with entries up to 96 in orange and 120 in red at Queenswood School, Potters Bar (Hertfordshire) on the 7th July and Clifton College Sports Ground, Bristol (Avon) on the 13th July (these two super events are standalone competitions and the winners will not automatically qualify for the National Finals).
The National Finals for all age groups, (minis and postal events) will take place at Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre, Buckinghamshire, on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th December 2013. Bisham Abbey is an Olympic training base and has outstanding facilities, and is close to the M4, M25 and M40.
The winners will receive outstanding prizes, with all Junior Singles winners (from 8&Under through to 18&Under) being awarded full contracts with Prince for Rackets, shoes and clothing (www.princetennis.com). Maui Jim, the world’s best sunglasses are providing glasses for the older winners (www.mauijim.com) and all champions will go in a draw to win an exclusive Powder Byrne holiday.
Players may enter multiple events, including the 8&U and 9&U mini regional events, which have no limits to how many a player can enter in 2013.
Another introduction to our schedule is the first ever grade 3 Open qualifying for U8 and U9's on the 5th October, which means, every child who enters will have a chance to qualify regardless of their rating. The open qualifying will be held at Surrey Sports Park, Guildford and depending on total entry numbers, we will play for as long as it takes to bring the draw down to the 2 wild card qualifiers, to join the 14 direct Foxhills main draw entry's.
The 8 &Under mini event is the only truly integrated National tournament in this age group.
Entries for the postal event close on Thursday 12th July, whilst entries for the 8&U and 9&U mini regional events will close 10 days prior to each regional tournament with the two mass events closing on the Monday before (see below).
