Brief Job Description

To head up the coaching activities for the Falmouth Sports Club, the definition and implementation of comprehensive tennis programmes covering all ages and abilities of players at our club.

Driving the Clubs tennis program in line with LTA objectives and create growth in our Mini/Junior, Student and Adult membership and to consolidate our Club Mark status.

Association and co-operation with our existing Squash and Racket ball coaches and in general become involved in the expanding social activities within the Club including events and tournaments

Develop relationships with schools and University Campus local to our position

Club History

The Club originated as a gentleman’s club  about 1860 in the town, evolving through identities as a ‘Lawn Tennis Club’ then ‘Tennis and Squash Club’ to its current ‘Sports Club’ status, still close to the Falmouth town centre.

The Club is a members owned and administered Club with a classic ‘30’s’ Club house comprising lounge bar and restaurant, pool and table tennis room, fitness club (starting January 2012) small gym and meeting rooms.

Currently the Club site provides three Squash courts (one glass back) with exhibition seating, four Tennis hard courts – two floodlit, two old squash courts providing facilities for Martial arts and Circus activities.

Ample car parking and a large grassed area for other sporting activities.

The Falmouth Sports Club is committed to providing our community with an active program for Racket Sports coaching and player development.

Job Specification

Coaching programme

  • Set up, manage and promote the on court tennis programme in line with Club Mark guidelines
  • Establish, promote and deliver a successful mini tennis programme amongst the community
  • Establish, promote and deliver a successful adult coaching programme amongst the community
  • Establish quality school links; raising local awareness and attracting new members

Teams and competitions

  • Set up regular competitive opportunities for all ages and abilities within the membership
  • Assist in planning and organising competitive tournaments and tennis events for all members
  • To assist in the entry and selection of teams using knowledge built up of the club.

Mini/Junior development

  • Actively support the competing mini/Junior members
  • Identify young talents among the mini/ junior membership and raise their profile at county level
  • Develop a performance programme to bring along top juniors into the club

Development of coaches

  • Manage a team of coaches, running training sessions to help improve them as coaches.
  • Continue the Tennis Leaders programme.

Other

  • Act as a point of contact for members and interact on a social and coaching level
  • Encourage members to play tennis and improve their skills and enjoyment
  • Actively source new members and help promote and market the place to play
  • Report back on objectives to the tennis committee meetings and participate into the key discussions on the agenda
  • Work with, and advise the management committee to consolidate our Club Mark status
  • Optimise facilities and resources and help advance the facility’s overall development
  • Liaise with outside bodies to source funding for overall programme

Personal Specification

  • Friendly, approachable and showing excellent customer service skills (managing enquiries,  etc…)
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills (scheduling, planning of event, organisation of tournaments etc…)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills (clear, concise etc…)
  • Fun to work with and a good sense of humour capable of interaction with our wide age spectrum
  • Has had (or still have) personal competing experience of competitive play and is capable to play and coach performance players
  • ‘LTA Licenced Coach’ as a minimum is essential (other extra qualifications welcome: PTR for example)
  • Is at ease with computers and can operate effectively as a minimum with e-mail, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint. Ideally is also capable to maintain a website using a simple content publishing mechanism. Also need to own his/her own equipment
  • Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau is essential
