Team Flybe travelled to Jersey this past weekend for training and matches against Caesarean tennis club. The team consisted of nine players from across Devon and Cornwall aged between 9 and 10 years old. Over the course of the trip the two teams were awarded points for attitude, behaviour, on court performances and even answers to quick fire quizzes and challenges.
Saturday saw the players take part in a training session led by former GB women’s no.1 Lucie Ahl, who travelled with the players, along with Simon Huddart from Exeter Tennis Centre. After working on their balls skills out in the wet and windy conditions the players completed fitness circuits and then headed for lunch. In the afternoon the players had four hours of intense training on court where they were physically and mentally challenged during drills and conditioned points. The players then had an evening meal at the local pizza express before splitting into two teams to compete against each other at their own quiz night back at the hotel!!
Sunday morning on court began with a further fitness session and some basket drills in the build-up to the singles and doubles matches for the afternoon. All players then competed in several timed matches and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to compete against new players and the chance to support each other in being part of Team Flybe. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable weekend was had by all coaches and players involved with the players sure to benefit from the experience of travelling away from home and putting in such fantastic effort on and off the courts.
