For some people tennis is something that happens for two special weeks in the Summer and is then forgotten about, but that's certainly not the case at Heron Tennis in Newquay. The team at Heron organised a Winter Open Day to give players of all ages and levels the chance to come along to enjoy some tennis and find out about all the different things on offer in Newquay throughout the year.
There was something for everyone with coaching sessions for parents and toddlers to start the morning and then, after the remembrance day silence was observed, it was back on with the action with fun coaching and competition for children and adults from beginners through to advanced and free court hire throughout the day.
There was a great turnout with 130 people registering on the day and what was really nice was that over 90 of these were new visitors to the club.
Heron is different to many clubs in that you don't have to be a member to join in any of the coaching sessions and activities and attendees were given a voucher inviting them back for another free session. The free tennis vouchers were for any session at the club, including regular Coaching sessions for adults and juniors of all levels, New Over 60's social tennis, Cardio Tennis fitness classes, Coaching for players with disabilities and/or other additional needs and Wheelchair Tennis.
The Open Day was supported by club Sponsors Ocean BMW and Mini and despite the occasional heavy showers and rumble or two of thunder a really lovely day was enjoyed by everyone.
To add to the day there was also a Craft Fayre taking place in the club's function room which gave everyone the chance to pick up some early Christmas cards and gifts.
