The 2010 BBC Sports Unsung Hero award, which seeks to recognise people who dedicate their life to promoting sport in their community to help more people enjoy sport around the UK, is currently accepting nominations.

The deadline for nominations is Friday 29th October and there are 15 regional awards, with the overall winner announced live at the 2010 BBC Sports Personality of the Year event on Sunday 19th December.

The award is now in its eighth year with a judging panel set to decide the overall winner. It will be made up of leading figures from the sporting world, a former winner of the unsung hero award and representatives from BBC sport and the BBC's nations and regions.

In 2009 the remarkable 72 year-old Doreen Adcock was recognised for her work as a swimming instructor in Milton Keynes helping to teach more than 13,000 people to swim over the past 35 years.
