It was reported in the Cornishman, earlier in the year, the astounding, initial success of Hayle Lawn Tennis Club’s Ladies ’A’ Team.
The summer season ended with them outright winners of the County 1 Division. Together with Truro ’C’ Team, they now replace Penzance ’A’ and Newquay ’A’ in the Premier Division.
Chairman of Hayle Lawn Tennis Club, Bob Ratcliffe, who followed their progress closely, reports that the regular team selected from Mandy Angove (Captain), Amelia Kitchen, Bryn Heale, Emma Austin, Diane O’Brien and Zoë Lee, suffered a minor set-back when, due to work commitments and family bereavements, some of the players were incapacitated. Fortunately, Club Secretary, Captain of the ’B’ Team and veteran player, Rosemary Saunders stepped up. Like her work for the Club, Rosemary does not disappoint and helped to maintain the momentum of the team’s success to the delight and plaudit of her fellow players.
The Chairman and the Club strongly believe this team will do well in the Premier Division, notwithstanding much tougher opposition. Their future looks bright for 2013.
