Balls on racket

Pauline Hall, Stella Leonard, Karen Morris and Caroline Vallance travelled to High Wycombe for their first match of the season on 20th April. However, all could have been for nought when a puncture as they travelled along the M4 brought their journey to a halt.  Not for these capable ladies though! No roadside drama, they simply set about changing the tyre, got back on the road and made it to the venue on time!

This was a tough fixture against a strong Bucks team. Stella put in the performance of the day by beating the second Bucks lady in 2 hours 20 minutes (everyone else watched for over an hour). She followed this by a stoic performance in the doubles with Caroline as cramp set in and was barely able to move on court.  Apparently when one of the Bucks ladies asked if she wanted to concede the rubber, was duly told, "I would rather die on court!"

Unfortunately the overall score was a 4-1 loss, even though there were some very close games.  However the day was nicely rounded off with homemade Coronation Chicken and homemade meringues with fresh strawberries and whipped cream!

A big thank you to Karen who kindly volunteered to step in and play at the very last minute due to injury problems.
