Landkey player

Primary schools from around the County came together at St Lukes College in Exeter to take part in the Devon School games on 6th July.

In the tennis event for years 3/4, teams of 2 boys and 2 girls represented their schools in a busy day of red ball matches. With 11 teams and 44 children taking part it was go, go go!!

In group A, Woodbury Salterton, Instow, Ladysmith, Tower House and Ermington primaries played off whilst in group B the schools were St Peter's, Landkey, Walter Daw, Tower House, Rydon and All Saints (Marsh).  The top 2 from each box then payed off in exciting semi finals.

St Peter's C of E Primary took first place in box A and Landkey came second.  Box B's winner was Instow with Woodbury Salterton in second.  This set up a great semi final with two north devon schools in one and two East Devon schools in the other!

Instow won the North Devon tie and St Peter's came out on top in the East Devon contest.  In an exciting and very close final St Peter's came out overall winners by just 3 points.

Landkey took the bronze medal in the third place play-off with Woodbury Salterton.

With only one heavy shower to dodge, the day was a great success thanks to the children who played in great spirit.

Georgina Loosemore, LTA Tennis Development Manager for Devon & Cornwall said, "The Schools Games tennis finals were fantastic.  It was wonderful to see players from all over the county compete to become the county champions.   Players were a part of a team and there was some lovely examples of team spirit, children  working together and willing one another on to be the best they could.   Some of the matches were so close.  Many thanks must go to the Young Sports Leaders who were a tremendous help scoring and helping the children through the matches."
