A long trip to Sussex saw the over 70's Devon men take on Sussex at Angmering on Sea. The match was played under ideal conditions; blue sky, glorious sunshine and a light breeze. The artificial grass court surface and low bouncing tennis balls did prove a bit of a challenge at first though!
The Devon men, Tom Eastop,Derek Shepard, Colin Holman and, in his first County match for Devon, John Bennett found themselves very evenly matched and were unlucky to lose their opening match of the season on a countback. With rubbers even at 2-2, Sussex took the win by 5 sets to 4 and 40 games to 39.
