Mixed fortunes in Birmingham for Devon’s 14 and Under County teams.

The boys and girls teams travelled to Birmingham at the beginning of May for the 14 and Under Inter County Cup

The girls had a close match against South Wales drawing 3-3 and eventually losing by 2 sets.
The match against Staffordshire was again a tight battle with Devon the eventual losers 2-4. In the final match against Cambridgeshire, the girls did Devon proud and pulled it out the bag winning 4-0 (no doubles due to rain).

Coach Charlotte Wallace said, “Overall it was a good experience for the girls who all contributed to the team’s success.”

The boys faced an exceptionally strong Northamptonshire team and went down 6-0 but the team showed great attitude and put in some stellar performances. The match against the Isle of Man was a much tighter affair with Devon the eventual winners 6-2. TThe final match was a relegation battle with Hereford and Worcestershire but gritty performances from all gave Devon the victory 4-2.

Coach Tom Lambert said, “A great weekend was had by all. There were excellent performances all weekend and the referee commented that our team was a credit to Devon. What was particularly pleasing was the team spirit, the support the players gave to each other and the experienced gained by the younger players for next year’s competition."
