Stretch forehand

Devon ladies enjoyed their trip to the sunny island of Majorca for this year’s tournament and produced some fine performances to reach semi finals.

The Suzanne Lenglen team, at the 35 level, of Karen Cross, Lucie Ahl, Melissa Russell and Julie Sinkins, beat Sweden and the USA 3-0 and The Netherlands 2-1 to reach the semis but came up against a very strong French team who overcame them 2-0.  The play-off for third place against Germany produced the same result, so the team just missed out on the bronze medal.

The tried and tested 55s team of Sally Freeman, Pauline Fisher and Frances Candy swept through the group stage with 3-0 victories over Japan, France and Slovenia to reach the semi-final but just lost out to the USA 2-1.  The team made sure of the bronze medal by winning the third place play-off against The Netherlands 2-1.

Jo Louis took part in the 40s team which came 5th and she also took a bronze medal in the doubles with partner Isabelle Tyrrell.
