Plymouth Summer Sports Festival 2013

Friday, May 31, 2013

With an opportunity to try out a multitude of sports for free, the Plymouth Summer Sports Festival at the Mount Batten Centre in Plymouth was the place to be for many of the city's young people on Saturday 25th May.

In only its second year, the organisers, co-ordinator Charlie Keen and Active Devon  were delighted to see an increased visitor number from year one and even more sports being showcased.  Tennis was new to the scene this year and was represented by the LTA's Debbie Hale and supported by local clubs Mannamead, Plympton, Hill Lane, St Budeaux and Plymstock.  Children enjoying tennis in the sun

The coaches saw over 150 people, some new to the game and some already playing locally and took advantage of the opportunity to encourage players to play more or start to play over this coming summer.

Debbie said, "This was a perfect opportunity to make people aware of the facilities and courts available for affordable and even free tennis in the City and to promote the sport to get more people participating".

The event was also supported by Mark and Amanda Blackler of 1st for Tennis offering tennis opportunities for the disabled who would be interested in taking up the game. Mark and his team offer opportunities, wheelchair, sonic, ……. contact headcoach@1stfortennis.com
