Jackie Nesbitt, over 40s captain, was delighted to report that for the third time in 5 years, Devon has won the Over 40s Inter County Championship.
Jackie said, "Karen Clark put up a very spirited fight against the Gloucester no. 2 Lorraine Ristic (a member of the GB team) before losing 3-6 3-6. Jo Louis then held off a much younger opponent in Lucy Howitt, winning against their no. 1 in three sets (6-4 4-6 10-3) in what was probably the match of the day. Sue Wiltshire and I beat the Gloucester doubles pairing of Marie Bell and Liz Cowan 6-4 6-1 and then Jo and Karen combined to beat Marie and Liz 6-3 6-2 to seal the victory. All in all it was a nice way to finish off the season and this is our third 40’s title (won in 2008 and 2010)"
This came on the back of a tough series of matches in the group stage where Devon had 3 out of 5 matches away from home but were victorious in all. Thanks must go to the squad of dedicated players which also included Yvonne Burrage and Pippa Britton.
