The team of Dylys Bradshaw, Margaret Hammett, Yvonne Cottram and Ali Miller made an excellent start to the season with a 4-0 win over Gloucestershire in Division 2A. This was a fine debut for newcomers Ali and Yvonne.
Unfortunately it was rather downhill after that. The match away to Berkshire was postponed on the morning of the event as Berkshire was suffering a downpour. A subsequent reschedule was also cancelled and Berkshire conceded which was very disappointing for the team.
The team then faced league leaders Hampshire at home, happily with indoor courts! Unfortunately the opposition was too strong and though matches were close, Hampshire won 3-1.
Having only played 2 out of 4 fixtures, the team was looking forward to their final match against Dorset away. Again the weather played its part and the match was postponed, finally being played in September and with Catriona Batty and Sue Doncaster being drafted in to the Devon team. This was a tight tussle and with the match drawn at 2 rubbers each, it finally went the way of Dorset on set/games countback. Very frustrating for the Devon ladies!
