Chris Gill, Director of Tennis at the Tarka Tennis Centre in Barnstaple has been impressed by the enthusiasm and enjoyment on display at the schools competitions being held last week.
"This is the first time we have run a winter competition programme and it is great to see so many school children and their schools keen to play tennis. We have been running our schools coaching programme at schools for a number of years now and it’s great to see the affect this has had on the children who have tried tennis. In total we will have had around 700 school children playing in matches this year in various age groups. The children come from many of the local North Devon schools and tennis is definitely a main school sport now.”
“From this we have more players attending tennis sessions not just at Tarka but at the other tennis cubs I the area; Westward Ho!, Braunton & Ilfracombe. We are also bringing the more able children together to train more often here at Tarka through our North Devon Squads as we aim to raise the standard across North Devon.”
