Hearty Lives Hartlepool Welcomes Cardio Tennis!

Tuesday, December 18, 2012

Hearty Lives Younger and Wiser is coming to Hartlepool and the Lawn Tennis Association / Tennis Foundation is helping the programme introduce Cardio Tennis.

The Hearty Lives Partnership aims to build on the commitment to improving health established through the local Healthy Schools Programme.  It aims to offer additional resources and capacity to support achievement of the programme objectives.  With this exciting programme happening in the region, Jo Cunliffe met Chris Briddon who is a British Heart Foundation Nurse Practitioner.  This was through their love of tennis and knowing the huge health benefits that the sport can bring.  With Cardio Tennis being a key product being rolled out nationally the partnership with the ‘Hearty Lives Hartlepool’ scheme seemed like destiny!  Following the meetings, Chris and her local networks promoted the Tennis Foundation’s Cardio Teacher Training Course, which was held in Sunderland last Friday (December 7th).  Seven teachers from the local Secondary Schools in Hartlepool attended the course and they had the greatest workout ever!  Music was blasting, feet didn’t stop moving and heart rates were in the zone!

Following on from the course each one of the schools will receive a free starter pack from the Tennis Foundation , which includes low compression tennis balls, pedometers, and a ball basket.  Onwards and upwards to helping people have healthy hearts in Hartlepool.
