Boys Battle At Batley

Monday, June 18, 2012

The D&C Boys 10U County Cup team had a tough challenge competing in Batley with a group consisting of Yorkshire, Lancashire, Cheshire and Derbyshire.

The team of James Parkin, Damon Crawford, Tom Davies and Joseph Quayle conducted themselves very well, played to their best ability all continued to fight with a very good team spirit despite the results. Apart from the one against Derbyshire which was lost 3-1(Rubber won by James Parkin) the other matches were lost 4-0. (although a couple of matches were close with Joseph Quayle losing a singles in a match tiebreak.)

However, the players were upbeat and quoted:

“I really enjoyed playing at County Cup and liked being a part of the County Team.  I especially enjoyed the doubles match against Yorkshire as it was a close match.  I thought some of the other players were exceptional and I have now set myself some targets to improve my game.”   Damon Crawford

“The competition was extremely tough but I think it was a great experience having the chance to play against players of that level. I really enjoyed playing as part of a team and it was a great feeling to get a win, not just for me, but for all of us. I particularly enjoyed our last doubles match against Yorkshire, when I played with Damon. Although we didn’t win the match I thought we made a really good team, we just wouldn’t stop fighting.”     James Parkin

"I was pleased and excited to be picked for the Team. The weekend was fun and I liked getting experience against players who are better than me. I know that I have to improve certain things in my game to reach the level of these players - like moving my feet more! I think we all stayed positive and all played better on the second day, after we had got used to the hard hitting of the other teams!"   Tom Davies

"It was a fantastic experience and I learnt a lot about myself and the need to keep working hard to improve various areas of my game. I am grateful for this opportunity."   Joseph Quayle

It's great to see such young players see what the competition is out there and want to strive to reach that level, which we're sure they will!
