Durham University Sports Centre, Stockton has started running Rusty Rackets, made the easy way!
The sessions are running for a 6-week trial period through the LTA's partnership with the local NHS and various organisations based on the Teesdale Business Park. The weekly sessions are hoping to encourage people of all standards to get back into tennis, whilst enjoying some competitive singles and doubles challenges between fellow players and friends! The courts are the size of a badminton court and the players use smaller rackets and sponge balls.
This week saw a further 5 people attend to see 10 players enjoying tennis whilst it was raining outside! Most of the new participants came from a promotional event that Jo Cunliffe (LTA) did with support from Lesley Wilson at HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), Thornaby.
We have even attracted some of the No Strings Badminton players across from their session, namely Duncan who has an bullet of a serve!
So with 4 weeks left and Wimbledon on the horizon we hope to see the fun, banter and social continue for the players.
Katya and Lucy who came for the first time last night highlighted,
"We last played tennis at school, but this has been great to get back into it!"
Jo went on,
"With the weather being so unpredictable at the moment it is awesome that we can still guarantee playing the game because we can use the badminton courts inside!"
Pictured are some of the group following the competition. Charlotte and Lucy who are waving the Olympic flags have the honour to keep the prize for the next week because they won their respective groups of the fun singles event!
