Inspired by the Murray win at Wimbledon, Blaydon Tennis Club Men’s Vets 1sts have taken the Durham and Cleveland LTA Awards by storm with an outstanding win in the ‘Team of the Year’ category.
This team of veterans who 2 seasons ago were languishing in Division C, has surged through the league and narrowly missed out on the Division A Title by 2 games. This is the culmination of a magnificent season at the Club with 6 teams taking titles this year and 2 other teams being promoted!
Named as the LTA ‘Place to Play’ in our region in 2012, this award winning Club in the heart of the Derwent Valley has a long tradition of producing champions and this year is no different. From mini tennis to veterans the Club caters for all age groups and all abilities and hopes that the success of British tennis stars and that of the Blaydon Teams will encourage more people to take up the sport.
The Club also collected Runner Up Awards in the Senior Volunteer and Senior Club Player categories with David Hickford and William Ip being recognised for their hard work and dedication.

There has been such a positive energy that the teams have thrived on. As Club Captain, I have been incredibly proud of what has been achieved this season and would give credit to all the players who have been involved this season."
