Josh Goodall Does The Double In Sunderland

Tuesday, October 15, 2013

Josh Goodall won Aegon GB Pro-Series Singles title at Sunderland Tennis Centre to add to the doubles title which he won with partner Harry Meehan.

The 27 year old from Basingstoke took just over an hour to see off the No. 1 seed, Ashley Hewitt 6-3, 6-2. The first set went with serve until Goodall managed to break Hewitt in the seventh game and then again in the ninth game to take the set 6-3. The second set almost mirrored the first set with the games going to serve until the sixth game when Goodall once again broke Hewitt to go 4-2 up and then broke once more to take the match.

Goodall, who now combines playing ITF Pro-Circuit Events with coaching commitments, said ‘I felt I played well. It was the perfect final and it wasn’t as easy as the scoreline suggests’. Goodall added; ‘I enjoy playing in Sunderland and Newcastle. There is always a good atmosphere; the people are friendly and helpful. There’s a good vibe’.

The former British No.2 now moves onto the Aegon GB Pro-Series in Loughborough
