The Durham and Cleveland Mini Red Winter Leader Board Series got off to a good start on Saturday at Durham University Queens Campus Sports Centre in Thornaby.
There were 7 entries in the Red 1&2 event and all the players played each other in a 10 point tie break. With 6 entries in the Red 3&4 event, the children all played each other, followed by a playoff to give all players 6 matches.
There were some very competitive matches played and all of the players showed great effort and determination. It was particularly impressive to see some of the less experienced players getting stuck in and competing very hard. Special mention must go to Ben Wrann from Sunderland Tennis Centre and Pippa Brown from Tennis World for winning all 6 of their matches in the Red 1&2 event and the Red 3&4 event respectively.
There are 5 events throughout the winter that make up the Leader Board Series, players receive 1 point for every match they play plus an additional 2 points for every match they win at each event. There will be prizes at the end of the series for players in 1st, 2nd and 3rd on the Leader Board.
