Lois Goes To Wimbledon!

Tuesday, September 17, 2013

Lois Page qualified through her County finals to play at SW19 in the National Road to Wimbledon finals, and sent in this report;

"To get to Wimbledon I had to win my club round (David Lloyd) and then I came 2nd in the county round so I qualified for Wimbledon as one of the best placed runners up.

"We arrived on Sunday afternoon to register and try out the grass courts we were going to use to play our matches. These are the ones opposite Court No.1 where the pros practise before their matches. When I got there I got given my official Wimbledon tag so the guards knew that I was a player. Then I met up with Rebecca Richardson and we got chance to try out one of the courts it was really good, even better than I expected.

"On Monday we arrived at 10am and I met up with my doubles partner Aisha Brown and we had a 15 minute warm up on the grass courts. My first match wasn’t until 1pm, which gave me a good chance to look around the grounds. We got to hang about in the Aorangi Park Pavilion which is where the professional players wait until there match is due to start. When I got called for my first match I was so excited and I couldn’t believe I was about to play on actual courts at Wimbledon! I don’t quite know how I won my first match because I was so amazed I didn’t really know what I was doing. I had my 2nd match at about 5ish and I won that as well.

"On Tuesday I only had one match which gave us chance to go on a tour of the grounds. We got to look inside Centre Court, Court 1 and I even got chance to sit behind the press desk where the players go after their matches. After that I played my 3rd round robin match which I just lost. I still qualified for the main draw.

"On Wednesday I played my first main draw match I had drawn the 4th seed who was very strong and I lost but I gave it a good go! My next match was our doubles we also lost this but it was a really good match.

"Because I had been knocked out of the tournament we came down to watch on Thursday and also went into the museum which was really interesting and we got to see the actual Wimbledon trophies because they never leave Wimbledon!

"On the last day I did a clinic with Tim Henman which was really fun and a great end to a fantastic experience!"
