U18 County Cup Report

Wednesday, March 25, 2015

Durham and Cleveland took a strong team to compete in division 6 of the Aegon County cup held in Prestwick, Scotland.

On the first day the boys took on the Isle of Man and quickly amassed a 5 rubber lead to secure the win.

Next day the boys took on the home county South of Scotland. Again they got off to a flyer and were 6-0 up in singles before taking a clean sweep of the doubles.

This meant on the final day the boys had to play Cornwall in a straight shoot out for promotion as Cornwall were also undefeated. In what looked like a close match on paper, the lads got off to a great start with strong wins from Rory Gaydon and Callum Todd to get the team going. This was followed by further wins for Kyle Upton and Josh Farmer. After the singles were finished we had achieved the 5 rubbers needed for promotion.

The team were a credit to the county all weekend. They performed well on court and their team spirit was excellent. By far and away they were the most professional team at the venue.

Well done to the entire team for all contributing wins to the cause.

The team was Dan Bennett, Ben Dean, Josh Farmer, Kyle Upton, Callum Todd, Rory Gaydon, Andrew McBride and John Heppell.
