The D&C girls were at Sunderland Tennis Centre for this year’s 14&Under County Cup, which was held over Bank holiday weekend. On day 1 we played against Northumberland, with wins at number 3&4 singles from Halle Pringle and Cheri Darley and another win at number 2 doubles with Ellie Tweddle and Cheri Darley. We were forced into a tie break shoot-out to decide the overall winner of the fixture; unfortunately, this didn’t go our way and we came away without the win. Day 2 saw things go our way against Hereford and Worcestershire, with comfortable victories at 1, 3 & 4 singles from Cara Todd, Cheri Darley and Ellie Tweddle. Cara Todd and Farah Yossry then teamed up to squeeze out a win in a match tie break, while Cheri and Ellie won very comfortably to end the fixture 5-1.
On the final day we had to take on Yorkshire and North of Scotland. Yorkshire hadn’t lost a set all weekend and unfortunately that didn’t change against us. We had another very tight match against North of Scotland, after wins at number 2 and 3 singles from Farah and Cheri we went into the doubles at 2 all. Cara and Farah teamed up to gain a convincing win, while Cheri and Ellie lost out in a 3rd set match tie break. This meant another tie break shoot out to decide the match. Once again we just missed out, a disappointing result that meant we ended up coming 4th in the group when we were just a few points from coming 2nd. All in all a good weekend for the girls though, who showed great effort and importantly great team spirit. Well done Cara Todd, Farah Yossry, Halle Pringle, Cheri Darley and Ellie Tweddle.
