Disability tennis sessions in Winchester have been hugely successful this summer at Osborne School, Shepherds Down School, Kings School and River Park Leisure Centre with throughput figures of over 500 to date. Winchester City Council in partnership with Hampshire and IOW LTA, the Tennis Foundation, Osman Tennis and PFPL has organised FREE sessions to increase participation in disability tennis.
This initiative will culminate in a tennis festival for all of the participants on Tuesday 22 August from 1-3 pm at River Park Leisure Centre. This event will show off all of the skills that have been learnt over the past few months and will involve some fun tennis game. The afternoon will end with a traditional tea party and a prize giving ceremony
Cllr Lisa Griffiths Winchester City Council Portfolio Holder for Heath and Wellbeing commented, ‘This initiative has been tremendously popular with participants of all ages and with a wide range of disabilities taking part. The feedback that we have received so far has been very positive and everyone, both staff and players, looks forward to the festival event on 22 August ’
