Hampshire Champions

There was double success at the Powder Byrne Grade 3 tournament for Hampshire players, Esther Adeshina and Ryan Golesworthy.

The Powder Byrne Junior and Open Tennis Trophy is a national event open to players of all standards and is a Grade 3 LTA approved Postal tournament. The winners of the tournament were given some great prizes including racket contracts with Dunlop Sport. The finals took place at the spectacular Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre in Buckinghamshire.

Oliver Golding, the US Open Junior Champion 2011, won the Powder Byrne U12 Singles in his early days: “You can’t beat match experience and the Powder Byrne tournament gives everybody the chance to play different opponents”.

The competition is one of the biggest in the UK, so this was a great opportunity for the Hampshire players to show their skills and follow in Golding's footsteps.

Esther played in the U12 girls final against Kent player, Phoebe Watton. Esther powered through the match, dominating to win 6-2, 6-1.

On the next court Ryan was in the U12 boys final. He faced an older, higher ranked player in a tough match which went to a third set tiebreak. Ryan dug deep to win 2-6, 7-6 (7-0), 10-8.

Both Esther and Ryan are based at the David Lloyd Tennis Academy in Southampton.
