Hampshire County Council have pledged funds to support the growth of adult and junior particpation in strategic areas throughout Hampshire in 2011. Councillor Margaret Snaith-Tempia, Exec Member for Culture & Recreation approved the funds in January.
The County Council and LTA will work with some key places to play to introduce new adults to the game of tennis, some of whom have never had access to the game before. The programme, set to go live in March, will offer people opportunities to try tennis, cardio tennis, mini tennis and receive subsidised coaching over the summer season.
Simon Johnson, Tennis Development Manager for Hampshire said
"We're extremely grateful to Hampshire County Council. It's fanstastic to see that they are supporting us to grow participation in tennis and we hope that hundreds of new adults will be able to access facilities in Hampshire this summer".
There are currently more than 12,000 British Tennis Members in Hampshire who play in 85 registered places to play. There are exciting plans to launch a new series of adult competition throughout the summer, and more info will appear shortly.
