10 & Under Girls County Cup Report

Report by Team Captain Karim Aouichaoui

On Saturday the first day at county cup the first tie was against Sussex, the girls knew it would be a tough match but were up for the challenge.  Hampshire were 2-1 up after the singles with wins from at our number 1 singles from Aisling Mcgrane and our number 3 singles Hannah Smith. With Alana Unitt  giving her best efforts but just losing out at the number 2 singles.  It was then time for the doubles which Aisling Mcgrane and Eliza Wheeler played but got edged out narrowly meaning it was all square which led to a match tie break doubles shoot out.  Hampshire were then just edged out 10-7 in the tie break shoot out which meant the girls lost the first tie to Sussex 2-3.

In the second tie of the weekend it was Dorset who were up next and again the Hampshire girls were leading 2-1 after the singles. With wins at 2 and 3 from Eliza Wheeler and Hannah Smith but Aisling Mcgrane just losing out at the number 1 singles. With the doubles rubber being needed to win the tie for the girls Aisling and Alana put up a good fight but just missed out losing in the third set tie break which left the tie destined for another doubles tie break shoot out, in which the Hants girls were just edged out again. So it was a tough first day for the girls but the spirits were high knowing how close we had came to two victories on the opening day and the girls were ready for day 2.

On Sunday morning the girls were up against a very strong Surrey team who had won their previous two ties on Saturday. With our singles players as Aisling Alana and Eliza we gave it our best shot but went down 3-0 and then missed out on the doubles to lose the tie 4-0 to the weekend winners of the whole event.

With the Hants girls left to face Kent in the final tie of the weekend. Both teams of which looking for their first wins of the weekend. The singles line up of Alana, Hannah and Eliza, and the doubles team as Aisling and Eliza blitzed through the match running out 4-0 winners against Kent to round off a tough but very enjoyable weekend.

All 4 Hampshire girls give it their absolute best and did themselves and county proud and should walk away from the weekend with their heads held high.
