Day 1 vs Sussex
It was a tough morning’s singles with us being 5-1 down going into the doubles. There were some gutsy performances by everybody, but in the end it was only Esther who could take the win in 3 sets.
In the doubles, the Sussex 2nd pair withdrew from their match due to injury, which left 2 matches to play. Tandy and Jo, played really well to win their match in the 3rd set tie-break. Zainab and Selina gave themselves some chances, but were unable to get past a strong Sussex pair.
End of day result 6-3 to Sussex
Day 2 vs Cheshire
All the team played their hearts out in the singles matches. Zainab, Tandy and Selina battled hard but unfortunately were unable to win losing in 2 sets. Freya and Christin won in 2 sets, whilst Esther managed to win convincingly after losing the first set. So at the end of the singles round we were 3-3.
Christin and Tandy played solidly to win their doubles, whilst the other 2 pairs played some fantastic doubles, but just lost in 2 close sets.
A brilliant effort by the whole team but sadly the final result was 5-4 to Cheshire.
Day 3 vs Buckinghamshire
A must win day for the Hampshire Girls to avoid relegation.
We got off to a flying start with Freya, Christin and Tandy winning in 2 sets. Jo lost in a tight 3 sets and Selina in 2. Zainab went on last, losing the first set and fought back massively to win in 3. After the singles we were 4-2 up and needing 1 more rubber to win.
Christin and Tandy won their doubles convincingly to give us the final rubber needed to win the tie and avoid relegation.
A brilliant effort by the whole team. Well done.
Cheshire won the group in the final rubber against Sussex and Buckinghamshire got relegated.
A really good weekend’s tennis by the whole team. Fantastic team spirit and support. It was a pleasure to take them away. A big thank you to Hannah Crawford for assistant Captain.
