Many congratulations for a fantastic weekend’s tennis to all concerned for such a great result coming 2nd in the country in both the Boys and Girls 12U County Cup.
Both teams qualified in Stage 1 of the event 2 weeks ago and set off on Friday to Bolton full of anticipation to give of their best in Stage 2 The National Finals with great team spirit. The teams were Captained by Ian Zellner for the girls and Daz Drake for the boys. They combined their expertise to give the players the best chance to perform for Hertfordshire, their team mates and themselves. I would like to thank them very much and also Yvonne Latter for taking the position of pastoral care. We also had great help with lifts to and from the venue from our parent team , many thanks for this.
Both teams pulled off two wins on Saturday and putting themselves in the Finals on Sunday to try and take the National Title. The boys beat Warwickshire 8-0 and then E of Scotland in the semi 4-4 and pulling off one of 4 match tie break shoot outs of the weekend. The girls needed two shoot outs to beat E of Scotland and then Yorkshire to get to the Final. There were tremendous battles to achieve these tight victories.
The Finals saw Surrey to edge out 4 wins against the girls but they needed 3rd set tie breaks in each match to win. The boys battled till the end losing a tie break shoot out to Yorkshire at 2 matches all. It must have been a very tough finish for all the players, parents and Captains in both teams and we thank you very much for all their efforts.
Again huge congratulations to all the players and hope you are feeling very proud of yourselves for being the 2nd County in the country at 12U level joining our 14U Girls team.
Good luck to all of you during the summer with all your competitions.
Go Herts
Bets wishes,
