Double success for Herts in the Winter County Cup 2009
Hertfordshire reclaimed the men’s title after winning all three of their matches against Cheshire, South Wales and Sussex in Bath over the weekend of 27th - 29th November
The Men's team, captained again by Jeff Wayne, consisted of Neil Bamford, Ed Corrie, George Coupland, Dominic Ross-Hurst, Neil Roskilly, David Thomson and Tom Corrie. In their opening match on Friday they had a fine 6-3 win over Cheshire and then went on to defeat South Wales 7-2 on Saturday and then Surrey 4-2 to secure the trophy for the third consecutive year.
Ed Corrie, David Thomson and George Coupland won all of their singles rubbers over the weekend to help the Hertfordshire on their way to being crowned men’s Winter County champions.
Our Ladies also had a very successful weekend, competing in Division 2 at Gosling Sports Park in Welwyn Garden City. The team, captained by Sarah Donovan, consisted of Alissa Ayling, Katharine Baker, Amanda Elliott, Kate Elliott, Hope Johnson, Laura Pettingale, Claire Ricketts and the 'Williams' sisters, Katy and Sam.
With fine wins over the 3 days against Dorset (8-1), Cheshire (6-3) and Bucks (6-1) our Ladies team will be promoted to Division 1and will compete alongside our men next year.
Many congratulations and thanks to all of the players who gave up their time to represent our county, especially Ed Corrie, David Thomson and George Coupland who came back from studying in America to play for Hertfordshire. Here's to a fourth straight win next year guys!
