Players came from Surrey, Essex, Middlesex and the home county of Herts to compete and with just one entry for the Ladies singles event it was decided to make it a mixed draw with all players competing for the trophy and prize money.
David Cabrera from Surrey played 44 games over 6 matches in total dropping just 4 games all day to claim the title whilst Surrey’s Pat Seaward and Hertfordshire’s Marc Francis battled out the final match for the runner up position. In a gripping and exciting match that edged one way then the other it was Marc who claimed the runner up trophy and prize money with a 5-3, 4-2 win over Pat. Marc trains at the Gosling International High Performance Centre and was key in setting up and organising the event which it is hoped will become an annual fixture on the wheelchair tennis tournament calendar.
Herts Tennis would like to thank all the players and supporters for their contribution to making this a fabulous and successful event. Including notably Roger Allen from RHA Financial Management LLP of Bedford, the referee John Bruley and also Sue Wolstenholme OBE who supported on the day and presented the awards.
