ALBANY TENNIS NEWS by Pat Sharp

Wednesday, January 16, 2019

On Wednesday the club hosted the annual Sponsors lunch and 35 sponsors, Life members, Vice Presidents and committee members enjoyed an excellent lunch, organised by membership Secretary Jan Gaskill and provided by members of the Friday Morning Ladies group. Thanks to Fran Shacklock, Linda Stamp and Sharon Lane. All our guests said what a lovely meal and many went up for “seconds”. Club President Bryan Sharp – a Life Member - welcomed everyone and mentioned the various successes the club had achieved during the past year. This included the success of Charlotte Clarke in winning the Road to Wimbledon Girls 14 & under, making Island tennis history and Roch Mirski reaching the semi-final of the Boys event. He thanked all the sponsors for their continued support. He stressed that sponsorship is vital for the club, island tennis and indeed most island sports. Following the meal, Club Chairman, David Long, thanked everyone involved in organising the event and all the guests.

Charlotte Clarke, still only 13, has been accepted in to a Girls 16 & under Grade 3 event at Birchwood this weekend. This is a big step up in her planned schedule. Good Luck CC!

The next event at the club will be A Night at the Races on Friday 22nd February. This is usually well supported and a big fund raiser. Suppers will be ordered from The Terrace Chippy and members and friends can order their supper – fish & chips £10,  two sausages & chips £8;  the price includes a soft drink, tea or coffee - by contacting Kirsten on e-mail kirstenolsen123@gmail.com. Race sheets are now available from me – e-mail albanytennispr@manx.net.

Currently, we have a large quantity of used tennis balls for sale – a bag of 20 is just £5. They are ideal for dogs or if you rinse them in the washing machine children can make good use of them. Contact me 861497 if you want some.
