The Isle of Man LTA has agreed to start junior County coaching again. These will be monthly sessions held at Albany, taken by Ian Watson and assisted by other Island coaches. Clubs are asked to nominate players who should attend an initial Open Day on Saturday 8th (red, orange and green ball ) and Sunday 9th September (12U and 14U). I’m sure our Albany juniors will be eager to be involved. More info will be distributed to clubs and junior players.

Charlotte Clarke (12) won the 16&U County Tour event at Stockton Heath, Warrington last weekend. Having had a good performance and results in Nottingham and reaching the Women’s Singles final of the IOMLTA Closed Championships, she made another trip to the UK and won the event. In the semi-final she won 4/0 4/0 and in the final she won 4/1 4/1, beating a girl she lost to last year. Again we have to thank her sponsors for helping with the travel/hotel costs and this time it’s grateful thanks to Cubbin & Bregazzi, whilst last week it was Tower Insurance Ltd.

Albany has a five or six juniors who play or are planning to play UK (or European) events and sponsorship for anyone would be very acceptable. We are also looking for a sponsor for a tour squad. Contact me on 861497 (e-mail albanytennispr@manx.net) if you know a company who would like to be involved. A reminder to all juniors age 14 and under – The Road to Wimbledon takes place at Douglas TC, on Saturday 14th July. You must have been born from September 2003 to 31 August 2007 and be rated from 10.2 to 7.1. You can enter on the IOMLTA website  iomtennis@manx.net  Also the IOMLTA Junior Championships will be held at Douglas TC from 14 – 22 July.  -  entry on iomtennis@manx.net. The Red ball event for 8 and under will be on Sunday 22 from 1.30 – 4pm. You can enter on line or on the day.

Will members please note that we are booked to have the courts re-painted starting Monday 13th August. This will take approximately two weeks. The indoor will still be available as usual to book and also for club sessions. There are no home league matches scheduled for that period BUT there will be away matches in the MIXED leagues.

Todmorden Shield – triangular match between Albany, Castletown and Ramsey on Sunday 5th August hosted this year by Castletown and starting at 1pm. Why not travel south and support our Albany team who are the current holders! Each team has two pairs of men and two pairs of women and it’s all games won that count – not sets.
