Match report:
Lancashire U18 girls made a strong start to their promotion campaign by taking 5 of the 6 singles from
the North of Scotland on day one, before going on to make a clean sweep of the doubles. Winning 8-1
overall.
Day two saw similar success against Durham and Cleveland with the team taking it 7-2 - leaving them in
first place going into the final with Staffordshire on Sunday.
The team knew they would have to punch above their weight on day 3 if they were to come away
victorious, with the top four players facing higher rated opponents. Lancashire took the first rubber
against Staffordshire with a win for Lauren Banks at 6 and Holly Clark put in a spirited performance
at 4, taking the match to 3 sets.
The rest of the team fought hard but it wasn't to be and despite their best efforts they went down 5 - 1
in singles to a strong Staffordshire team. The overall group finished 1st Staffordshire 2nd Lancashire
3rd North of Scotland 4th Durham & Cleveland.
Next year the team will fight on in division 3 - it will be without Laurie Clark and Annabel Rowlands who
are heading off to the States in August to take up student/athlete scholarships. I would like to wish them
both the best of luck.
Well done to the Lancashire girls, some great performances at the weekend and as usual excellent team
spirit!
