Another successful Lancashire Tennis Championships has come to a close at Bolton Arena with Simon Roberts winning the Men’s Singles for the 13th time, a record 10 years in succession. Simon beat George Hutchings 6-3 6-1 in the final. The match was great entertainment for the many spectators who gathered to cheer on the players and watch in awe. It was a high quality match for some of the younger players to watch, played in great spirit.
Lily Hucthings won the Women’s Singles title beating Madeline Frediani in the final, this was a great battle showcasing the talent of some of our junior females. The Men’s doubles was won by Ben Churchman & Mark Rushton-Woods in a great event with lots of close matches, the Ladies doubles was won by mum and daughter combination of Liz & Rachel McCrae who beat Madeline Frediani & Melissa Maddock 6-2, 6-4. The Mixed Doubles title was won by Rachel McCrae Tom Dillon with a tight 6-16-7(5)1-0(9) win over Jhonayah Fletchman & Simon Roberts.
In the Junior events two Robin Park Tennis Centre players Freya Peet & Dylan Sharpe won the 9u Girls & Boys singles titles, while Mariam Meftah & Thomas Burnley both from David Lloyd Manchester North (formly Virgin Active) won the 8u singles events. Ella McDonald won a staggering 6 events being crowned the champion in, 12u, 14u & 16u Girls singles, winning the 14u Girls Doubles with Maisie Lavelle, 14u Mixed Doubles with Rob Cowley &18u Girls Doubles with Madeline Frediani. A great achievement.
It was great to see a few new faces in the Seniors events with success for Eden Parkinson & Nick Higham in Men’s 45 Doubles events. Muhammad Shafique won both the 35 & Over 40 Men’s Singles events defending his titles from last year.
The tournament took place over eleven days and saw over 570 players competing in fifty different events, making it one of the biggest tennis competitions in the country.
