The 2010 Powder Byrne Junior Tennis Trophy is now open for entry.
This is a Grade 3 Postal LTA Approved Ratings & Rankings Tournamentand is open to players of all standards.
The tournament will take place from the 22nd May – 28st November 2010 and will welcome competitors from across Great Britain.
Powder Byrne are collaborating closely with the LTA and the Tennis Foundation in order to promote tennis across Great Britain though this tournament. In this respect they are hoping that all clubs and coaches will encourage their young players, any tennis playing parents and any competitive adults to participate in the tournament.
More information about the tournament:
The Powder Byrne Junior Tennis Trophy is based on a postal format, allowing early rounds to be played on a local or regional basis at tennis clubs, school courts, or on public courts (players can enter whatever their standard and regardless of whether they are members of a club), provided they have a British Tennis Membership number (and an LTA rating - for singles events).
The better players will be seeded directly into the later knockout stage, which means the lower rated players should have a good chance to win some matches and the higher rated players do not have too many easy matches early on.
Early entries already include: Oliver Golding, Britain’s number one junior, and Jazzi Plews one of the leading U12 players in the UK. Equally important, Iman Garshong with a 9.2 rating has also already entered.
In addition to the junior tournament (U10, U12, U14, U16, U18 age groups), there will be Men’s and Ladies open singles events as well as an Open Mixed doubles tournament.
Although, maintaining its competitive edge, the tournament also places a strong emphasis on family fun and exercise; with the inclusion of Family Doubles events, encompassing Father & Son, Father & Daughter, Mother & Son and Mother & Daughter events.
In addition, Powder Byrne will invite all entrants to participate in a complementary coaching clinic on finals day, Sunday November 28th, at the LTA National Tennis Centre, Roehampton.
Great prizes are on offer including Dunlop pro racket contacts for the junior singles winners and the chance of winning a Powder Byrne luxury holiday for all winners. The Men’s and Ladies Open Singles will also pay prize money of £200 to the winner and vouchers for sports equipment for the runner up.
The Powder Byrne Junior Tennis Trophy has already created a lot of interest including an early entry from Britain’s No. 1 Junior, Oliver Golding. Oliver won the U12 singles when Powder Byrne first ran the postal tournament back in 2004.
