Great day of sports

Friday, October 15, 2010

More than 65 people with learning disabilities have taken part in taster sessions in different sports.

The 40-minute try-outs included football, tennis, bowls, dance and karate and were held at Sport in Desford, in Peckleton Lane, Desford.

They were arranged by the county council's Valuing People Team, Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council and various sports organisations.

Everyone who took part had the chance to join a local club if they wanted to.

Coaching on the tennis courts was Zara Jurenko, who has just returned from the Special Olympics in Poland, where she won two gold medals.

The Mayor of Hinckley and Bosworth, Councillor Sandra Franks, said: "It was a great day and all those who took part enjoyed themselves. It clearly demonstrates the need for such events in the borough."
