Our teams have had a busy summer season again and have all maintained their places in the various Groups.
Our Ladies 1sts deserve congratulations for establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the top division after promotion last year. We were also able to field a 4th team which provided match experience to new members and to some of our brave beginners, ably supported by a number of existing squad members. Having the numbers to field 4 teams augers well for the future of Ladies tennis at the club, and I know that several of the latest recruits to competitive tennis are eager to build on their experiences for next year.
Our top Ladies team, including Victoria Bullock ,Emily Egan Morriss, Hannah Holmes and Julie Westgate, has won promotion to the Aegon Midlands League after their exciting win against The Parks, Nottingham. We wish them well.
A number of our talented Junior “stars” have achieved great things this season. At the Junior County Closed Championships, Becky Donald won the U14 Girls singles and her sister, Charlotte, won the U16 singles. Charlotte also won the U18 mixed with her partner Connor Glennon.
Becky and Charlotte together were runners up in the U 15 Doubles, and Vasya Kusmartsev was runner up in the U18 Boys Doubles, with his partner Matthew Richmond.
Adam Jalland finished 1st on the Summer 2011 Leicestershire Boys 10&U Leaderboard with Louis Marsden 4th on the Boys 9&U Leaderboard. Congratulations to them all.
The Junior section of the Club continues to go from strength to strength. This month, in order to create a strong junior identity and allow the junior section to be competitive not just with other tennis clubs, but other sports club as a whole, the junior section of the club will be rebranded as Loughborough Storm in a joint project between Loughborough LTC and Inside Out Tennis (our fantastic coaches). They have their own logo and website, www.loughboroughstorm.co.uk, so please have a look at it to get a full picture of what it is that is trying to be achieved. All of this is intended to create a sense of unity within the junior section which will hopefully translate into large rates of retention through into adult tennis.
Finally, a reminder that our Winter Dome is erected at the start of October. There is now a Dome Booking Section on our club website and this gives step-by-step details of how to book with relevant prices for members and non-members. We have a new Dome skin this year and we hope that this new easy booking system will result in the benefits of under-cover winter tennis being enjoyed by many, so please have a look at our website and come and join us. http://www.loughboroughtennisclub.co.uk
