Junior Star Awarded Grant to Aid Development

Friday, February 17, 2012

Loughborough Storm Tennis player Adam Jalland has been awarded a grant from Charnwood Borough Council’s Talent Support Fund to help towards his development.

The grant will enable the 10-year-old from Mountsorrel to continue training at a high level, make sure he has the right kit to continue to do so and allow him to travel to key tournaments around the Midlands.

All of this will help him try to improve on the success that he’s already achieved in such a short space of time in the sport.

Adam won the Leicestershire 10and under boys county leaderboard in Summer 2011 having taken up the sport two years later than many of the other players he’s been competing against.

He won a number of tournaments but also showed consistency in his tournament results by reaching the latter stages of almost every tournament on the County Tour he entered on his way to his first place.

He also made his County debut this season, representing Leicestershire at the 12 Counties event in Corby. He won two out of three matches and played a player ranked highly nationally in his third match, narrowly losing an epic match which was a credit to both players.

He currently trains with Inside Out Tennis at Loughborough Lawn Tennis Club and is a core part of their junior teams who play under the banner of Loughborough Storm.

Adam also trains with the MyTennis Academy based at Loughborough University where he has been part of their Super Minis programme for the past couple of years.

Adam will move up to the next age category at the start of April and is currently training hard to make the transition from Mini Green Tennis to 12 and under tennis a successful one.

On receiving his grant, Adam said “I hope that I can bring back some tournament success to the Charnwood area to thank you for your generosity. This is great news!”

While the grant will help Adam to continue in the sport he loves for some time yet, he is looking for further ways to finance his future and give him the chance to reach the highest level.
