Youngsters have ace time at tournament

Friday, July 13, 2012

The excitement of Wimbledon continued at a nursery where youngsters enjoyed their own mini tennis tournament.

Children at the Handkerchief Day Nursery, in Kegworth, had an ace time, using the skills they have learned in their weekly lessons at the nursery.

Coaches from Active Ace Tennis Academy, in Nottingham, train the youngsters at the High Street nursery, which has a full-size tennis court in its two-acre grounds.

Nursery manager Kelly Staniforth said: "With the worrying trend of childhood obesity, giving children a love of sport at an early age is a priority for us.

"All the champion tennis stars started at an early age, so who knows, we may have the next Andy Murray or Maria Sharapova in our midst!

"I'm delighted to say that despite some of the tantrums on the court at the French Open our children are learning good sportsmanship."
